Willow, artista appartenente alla schiera degli artisti di Amstel Art Gallery, dipinge quest’anno i tram milanesi di Motta che vanno a colorare le strade di Milano durante le festività natalizie. Il tram sarà una vera e propria galleria d’arte in movimento, e quest’anno l’onore è toccato proprio a Willow, firma della pop art italiana molto famoso anche all’estero.
Willow, an Amstel Art Gallery artist, paints this year the public tram of Milan; the artist has been chosen by Motta for this project, that will be a real art gallery on wheels.
Qui di seguito la biografia dell’artista:
Nato nel 1978 a Milano si diploma presso la Scuola del Fumetto e Illustrazione di Milano nel 2000. Collabora da 12 anni con case editrici, agenzie pubblicitarie e aziende produttrici di gadgets e articoli da collezione e design. Con lo pseudonimo W i l l o w realizza tele, grafiche, murales e vinyl toys vicine allo stile POP,collaborando con gallerie, aziende e designers anche all’estero.
Willow ci trasporta in un mondo parallelo, densamente abitato e popoloso, fatto di colori piatti e di un segno grafico preciso, lineare, senza interruzioni, dove ogni elemento ha le sue linee chiuse – ma comunque c’è spazio per tutti! Questo mondo è abitato da esseri molto particolari, a metà tra il microorganismo e il virus, che si “parlano”, attraverso i baloons, ma senza utilizzare le onomatopee codificate del fumetto, quanto piuttosto attraverso suoni che finiscono per identificare, nominare e definire l’essere che lo pronuncia. In questo mondo densamente popolato, non mancano le sfide sociali, ed è interessante vedere come in un moto di ribellione all’ordine costituito, siano gli esseri più piccoli a protestare contro i maggiorenti tentacolati che rimangono afasici davanti a tale arditezza verbale. Le immagini che Willow ci propone sono apparentemente ludiche, ma grazie alla serietà di fondo – anche formale – che le caratterizza, sono dotate di indubbia forza comunicativa e di grande, divertente fascino.
Born in 1978 in Milano, he graduated in 2000 at the Comics and Illustration School in Milan. He’s been collaborating for 12 years with publishing houses, advertisement agencies and with his graphic work and also with gadgets and design objects business. With the pseudonim “Willow” since 2008, he makes canvas by enamel, graphic works,vinyl toys with a POP inspiration. He is collaborating with galleries, companies and designers in some countries all over the world. Willow takes us in a parallel, densely popolulated world, made of plain colours and a precise, linear, continuous drawing, where each component has got its close lines – but in any case therer’s some space for everyone!
This world is populated by very particular beings, midway between micro-organisms and virus, who talk to each other by means of balloons; they don’t express themselves by using comic strip’s coded onomatopoeias, but rather by emitting sounds which identify them. In this overpopulated world social challenges don’t lack and it’s interesting to see how in a rebellion to the established order the littlest beings are those who remonstrate against the tentacled leading figures who are afasic before such verbal boldness. The images that Willow show us are seemingly ludic, but thanks to the underlying formal seriousness which characterizes them, they are endowed with undoubted communicative power and a great, amusing glamour.
